More than 240 members of the public, partner organisations and staff attended our annual general and members’ meeting (AGM) at York Racecourse on Wednesday 16 September, highlighting the work done across our mental health, learning disability, autism and ADHD services.
The event’s information marketplace brought together more than 40 trust teams and services, giving attendees the opportunity to learn more about the support available from the organisation.
A further 100 people joined the trust online to see presentations from chief executive Alison Smith, lead governor Gary Emerson, executive director of finance, estates and facilities Liz Romaniak and representatives from the trust’s auditors Forvis Mazars, compered by trust chair Marie Burnham.
Trust chair Marie Burnham said: “As a trust, we are dedicated to openness and transparency, and our AGM is an opportunity for us to talk about everything that is happening in our organisation. The services marketplace gives members of the public the chance to talk to those delivering our services in person and learn about the help available in the communities we serve.”
“We’ve very pleased to be able to publish the recording online because this gives those who weren’t able to attend the chance to catch up on what’s happening with our trust at a time that’s convenient for them.”
At the event our chief executive Alison Smith highlighted some of the trust’s achievements over the past year and how it is delivering against NHS England’s 10 year plan focusing on: moving from hospital to community, from sickness to prevention, and from analogue to digital.

Community support
- Development of Neighbourhood Centres and wellbeing hubs.
- Expansion of mental health support in schools.
- Launch of the Tees Getting Help Service.
Improving care closer to home
- Fewer out-of-area placements and private-sector bed use.
- Bluebell Apartments partnership with Durham County Council.
Partnership working and innovation
- National recognition for the Tees Crisis Triage and Assessment Hub.
- Opening of Hummingbird House.
- Growth of the Individual Placement and Support service.
In her presentation, Alison also acknowledged that, while challenges remain, the trust continues to make improvements and deliver positive outcomes for local people.
The recording also contains updates on the trust’s financial position and future plans before taking part in a question-and-answer session with members of the senior leadership team.
Newly elected trust governor for North Yorkshire, Julia Steel, said: “I would encourage anyone interested in mental health and learning disability NHS services in the area to attend a TEWV AGM. As a newly elected governor I found it very helpful to see the bigger picture and I enjoyed meeting some very interesting, dedicated people.”
Christine Hodgson, trust governor for York added: “I found the AGM very informative and I learnt some much from talking to the people on the stalls. They were all so passionate in the role they play and about the improvements that are being made.”
