I didn’t know what to expect when I first joined Teesside Mind’s Recovery College welcome session, but it turned out to be one of the better decisions I’ve made.

My tutor delivered the course in a calm, professional and sensitive way. Assisted by a lived experience volunteer, we were made to feel comfortable and like our opinions mattered, whilst ensuring it was a safe environment. The tutor’s delivery was easy and informative and no question, or opinion, was a trouble.
Growing confidence
They were both very patient and understanding and had a way of encouraging those of us who didn’t find it easy to interact at first. What was lovely was as the weeks went on, we all found the confidence to join in with the activities and conversations. That was down to the encouragement and patience.
Managing the difficult times
I thought the topics that were covered were very useful and a great help in coping with difficult times. Even before we’d covered all the topics, I was using the tools that we were taught in my everyday life. Even my family were noticing some of the things I was doing.
It was very reassuring to find that others had been in similar positions and had completed the courses and came out the other side well equipped. It’s not an easy fix, but you know what you can do to help with any challenges you may face.
Taking the first step
The courses are very informative. The tutor and volunteer had a lovely way of approaching things so don’t ever be afraid of taking that first step of signing up. You’re in safe hands.
