Our volunteers carry out a wide range of roles including NHS check and chat, volunteer drivers – transporting patients or equipment to sites across our trust, therapy dogs, befriending and support volunteers, supporting and facilitating activities volunteers, administration and IT support volunteers, meet and greet volunteers, gardeners, chaplaincy and even magicians.
Vital transport to vulnerable patients
Our volunteers include Dave Hodgson or ‘Driver Dave’ as he’s affectionally known. He’s been a volunteer driver for nearly three years, providing vital transport to vulnerable patients to help them get to hospital appointments. He said:

“I’ve always enjoyed driving and getting out and about and speaking to people. After retiring, I wanted to give back to society so I drive people who can’t get to their hospital appointments. It’s something I can do to make people’s lives better.
”My colleagues at the trust are an absolute joy to work with. These last few years have been a pleasure and I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.”
Running every year since 1984, Volunteers’ Week provides an opportunity to thank volunteers and recognise the value of their time, passion and skills. The campaign highlights the diversity and unity of volunteer work across the UK.
Volunteers at the heart of everything we do
Abby Holder, our inclusive community engagement lead, said: “Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. Their time, compassion and commitment make a real difference to the people and communities we serve every day.
They bring energy, kindness and invaluable support, helping us deliver better experiences and outcomes for those who access our services. We’re incredibly proud of the difference our volunteers make across our trust."
