We have received a prestigious reward in recognition of our continuing support of the armed forces community.
The Trust was chosen by the North of England Reserve Forces and Cadets Association to receive the Employer Recognition Scheme Silver Award 2022 this month.
The Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) was launched to reward employers who support Defence People objectives and encourage others to exhibit the same behaviours.
In November 2021, the Trust signed the Armed Forces Covenant, which supports those who protect our nation, veterans, their families and service leaders. The covenant is a pledge that together the Trust will acknowledge and understand that those who serve or who have served in the armed forces, and their families, should be treated with fairness and respect in the communities, economy and society they serve with their lives.

In June 2022 the Trust was formally recognised as ‘Veteran Aware’ by the Veterans Covenant Healthcare Alliance (VCHA), a group of NHS healthcare providers in England committed to providing the best standards of care for the armed forces community, based on the principles of the Armed Forces Covenant.
TEWV has also signed up to the Employer Recognition Scheme, which is facilitated by the Ministry of Defence, specifically the Reserve Force Cadet Association (RFCA).
The Trust was also active during this year’s Armed Forces Day, taking part in activities at Scarborough’s celebration event in June chatting to people about available and developing services, current roles and employment opportunities for all members of the armed forces community.
We are committed to being an armed forces-friendly organisation and this award is recognition of some of the great work that has taken place so far. We are currently working with people from across the armed forces community to develop our services and ensure they receive the right support and opportunities.

TEWV serves an area with several military bases, including Catterick Garrison, RAF Leeming, Imphal Barracks, Strensall Barracks and many Reserves and cadet organisations.
It has been a pleasure to be involved in promoting the skills and attributes of Veterans, serving personnel and the Armed Forces Community. TEWV have actively sought my views around recruitment, retention and co-creation of services and it’s great to see them recognised for their work.

A lot of hard work from a diverse group of employees and volunteers has gone into TEWV achieving the Silver ERS Award. From the signing of the Armed Forces Covenant in November 2021 the CEO and Directors have set the tone for the organisation by involving Veterans and other members of the Armed Forces Community in this work. I’m proud to have been involved in their ongoing engagement activities.

There has always been great support for the Armed Forces within the North East of England but the growing number of companies prepared to publicly demonstrate this support is truly heartening, especially in such challenging times. These Employer Recognition Scheme awards are a recognition of the backing and encouragement provided to their employees who are also Reservists, Adult Volunteers within the Cadet Forces, Veterans and their families. Well done to you all.
