1 June 2022
Volunteers Week takes place 1-7 June every year. The theme this year is ‘a time to say thanks’. It’s a chance to recognise the fantastic contribution volunteers make for our patients, colleagues and communities.
We have over 145 volunteers across the Trust who dedicate their time, care and support to our services. We’d like to say a huge thank you for everything that you do!
Here are some of our amazing people talking about why they love to volunteer:
After my wife died, I decided to apply as a volunteer driver to help get myself out of the house. I have been on the 'steps towards employment programme' ran by the voluntary services team and I found the programme useful to help me apply for paid roles. Volunteering makes me feel proud and good about myself.
Steven Wilson, volunteer driver
I absolutely love volunteering on Birch ward, I go each week to offer crafts and provide a listening ear! I find volunteering to be very fulfilling and a complete privilege. I have volunteered now for over 6 years and can't imagine stopping anytime soon!
Mary Grimes, Birch ward volunteer
I began volunteering to help elderly patients suffering with dementia. We create a personalised soundtrack full of songs with fond memories for each patient and their family. I love music and know how important a role it can play for someone's wellbeing, so it's very fulfilling being able to help with this.
Ana Buede-Flectcher, volunteer
I love knowing that for an hour a week it makes a real difference to someone who has been lonely. I have seen a real positive change over the last year because of this volunteering service and we look forward to our chin wags.
