We currently have 282 volunteers who generously give their time, energy, passion and skills to support our services and teams. They make a positive impact on our patient experience and staff wellbeing.
Our volunteers carry out a wide range of roles including NHS check and chat, volunteer drivers who transport patients or equipment to sites across the Trust, therapy dogs, magicians, football support, befriending and support volunteers, supporting and facilitating activities volunteers, administration and IT support volunteers, meet and greet volunteers, gardeners, and chaplaincy.
They contribute an average of 463 hours a month or 5,556 hours a year!
Our volunteers include Sophie and her therapy dog Daisy, who have been volunteering with us for two years. Sophie said:

I began volunteering as I wanted to share Daisy with others. She loves people and helps me a lot so I knew she would help others too.
“Volunteering helps me mentally and it makes me smile how Daisy helps others. It gives me a reason and purpose.”
Volunteers’ Week is an annual celebration that recognises, celebrates and thanks the UK’s amazing volunteers for all they contribute to their local communities, the voluntary sector, and society as a whole.
Lisa Cole, our inclusive community engagement lead, said:
Our wonderful volunteers make a huge difference to the Trust and the lives of our patients, their carers and families.
“This is the most important thing to us, and we couldn’t do what we do without them. Having someone to chat to, or do an activity with, to sit alongside you, to help you get to appointments, or seeing a friendly face when you enter a building for the first time is so important.
“If anyone is thinking of becoming a volunteer and wants to do something rewarding and fulfilling, we have lots of different roles that people can get involved in.”
Volunteers’ Week is led by the UK Volunteering Forum, a partnership between Volunteer Scotland, the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO), the Wales Council for Voluntary Action (WCVA) and Volunteer Now in Northern Ireland.
