25 June 2022
Armed Forces Day, the annual day of celebration and recognition for our UK Armed Forces community, takes place this weekend on Saturday 25 June.
The Trust is showing support for Armed Forces Day by officially launching an Armed Forces Staff Network, the first of which will take place on the 7.7.22 for staff in the organisation. Staff and involvement members will also be present at this year’s Armed Forces Day in Scarborough, chatting to people about available and developing services, current roles and employment opportunities for veterans.
Earlier this year, the Trust signed the Armed Forces Covenant, which supports those who protect our nation, veterans, their families and service leaders. The covenant is a pledge that together Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust (TEWV) acknowledge and understand that those who serve or who have served in the armed forces, and their families, should be treated with fairness and respect in the communities, economy and society they serve with their lives.
The Trust has now been formally recognised as ‘Veteran Aware’ by the Veterans Covenant Healthcare Alliance (VCHA), a group of NHS healthcare providers in England committed to providing the best standards of care for the armed forces community, based on the principles of the Armed Forces Covenant.
TEWV has also signed up to the Employer Recognition Scheme, which is facilitated by the Ministry of Defence, specifically the Reserve Force Cadet Association (RFCA). The Trust has recently received a bronze employer award and are now in the process of applying for the silver award.
We are committed to being an armed forces-friendly organisation, and we are currently working with people who have a lived experience of the armed forces, and their family members, to develop of our services and ensure they receive the right support and opportunities.
