Our staff are our most important asset and recognising their excellent work and the vital contributions they make to patient care is very important.
We have achieved the gold Investors in People (IIP) standard and have been commended on great people management practice and demonstrating a commitment to staff development.
We are signed up to the Disability Confident Scheme. This means we have to demonstrate that we’re taking positive action to attract, recruit and retain disabled people.
We have an award-winning system for delivering efficiency through clinician-led quality improvements.
All staff who join us are provided with a comprehensive induction programme, starting on their first day of employment.
Continuous professional development is important to us. Armed Forces Network (AF Network)
The Armed Forces Network are a bunch of people who meet up virtually, on a monthly basis. They are veterans of the Armed Forces, family of serving soldiers, sailors, air force personnel and veterans, reservists and clinical staff who work with veterans. If you are interested in joining one of our sessions, please reach out because we’d love to have you there!
The Equality and Diversity Team helps us run the network so drop them a line if you are interested in joining [email protected].
Step into health
The Step into Health initiative aims to support veterans and people who are in their last 12 months of service to consider a career in the NHS.
Tracey Marston, Employee support officer has a lead role in the Step into health programme. “My role in this is that I am an RAF veteran and I offer one to one conversations, with any veteran, or anyone about to leave the armed forces, who would like to consider working for TEWV. This has been a very positive experience for all concerned and has helped me to consider just what we could offer to support veterans who would like to work for us.
I want to be able to remove all and any perceived barriers that someone might have. I want to be able to advise and signpost our veterans and remove any anxieties that there might be about working in the NHS, ideally for TEWV.
I will soon be having a conversation with NHS England about the initiative. It’s early days but I am positive that many veterans could have a worthwhile and fulfilling career with TEWV just as I have.

Silver status armed forces employer
We have received a prestigious reward in recognition of our continuing support of the armed forces community.
The Trust was chosen by the North of England Reserve Forces and Cadets Association to receive the Employer Recognition Scheme Silver Award 2022.
The Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) was launched to reward employers who support Defence People objectives and encourage others to exhibit the same behaviours.
In June 2022 the Trust was formally recognised as ‘Veteran Aware’ by the Veterans Covenant Healthcare Alliance (VCHA), a group of NHS healthcare providers in England committed to providing the best standards of care for the armed forces community, based on the principles of the Armed Forces Covenant.
TEWV has also signed up to the Employer Recognition Scheme, which is facilitated by the Ministry of Defence, specifically the Reserve Force Cadet Association (RFCA).
