Who is the Darlington Mental Health Support Team?
Our team support young people in schools and colleges who may be struggling with mental health difficulties. This might include feelings of anxiety and low mood. Our aim is to offer support as early as possible to stop things from getting worse.
How we can help
We offer Low Intensity Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT). This is based on the idea that our thoughts, feelings and behaviours are all linked together.
When we struggle with our mental health, it’s like we get stuck in a vicious cycle of negative thoughts, feelings and behaviours. CBT aims to break this vicious cycle and make it into a more positive one.
In our sessions, our team will work with you to set goals and help you to achieve them.

More support
If you would like one to one support, please speak to the mental health lead in your school who can make a referral to us.
We also work with other services in Darlington – so even if we can’t offer the support you need, we can help you and your family access the right service.
How we help your school or college
We work with your school or college to help make it a place where students’ mental health is understood and supported. This means we train your teachers, so they know how to help if you or someone else is struggling.
Sometimes we do assemblies for special events like Children’s Mental Health Week. We also might visit your class to talk about things that matter to you like anxiety, confidence, or coping with stress.
We put up posters around your school or college that help explain who we are, what we do, and how you can get support.
Making a difference
Here’s some feedback from young people on how our team has made a difference to them:
It helps me out – it’s helping me to get better at socialising.”
I noticed a massive improvement in my overall wellbeing since starting therapy.”
I felt heard in every session and felt like I was getting the help I needed.”

If you would like to access support, please contact the mental health lead in your school or college who will be able to make a referral to us.
Thank you to the students at Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College who created this video about how our Darlington Mental Health Support Team supports young people at school and college.
