Philosophy of care
Brambling ward offers assessment and rehabilitation in a safe and secure environment, supported by trained staff offering a high standard of quality care.
Each patient will be encouraged to actively participate and work together with our staff in the planning of their care, supported by members of the multidisciplinary (MDT) team.
This includes a psychiatrist, nurse, psychologist, social worker and occupational therapist, as well as other agencies dependent on the patient’s needs.
Throughout this process a holistic package of care will be introduced which is individual for each patient, to provide choice, value and involvement throughout their recovery pathway.
Brambling ward embeds trauma informed care on a day-to-day basis as the foundations of structure, routine and care plans of our patients. By adopting this approach, Brambling ward focuses on a complete picture of the patient’s journey both past and present, to prescribe and influence interactions and interventions, to always provide safe and kind care.
Brambling Ward is home to two pet rabbits, Rory and Snowy, who support recovery and encourage routine and responsibility for all living here.
Daily routine
As part of the trauma informed care model, Brambling has an activity programme that offers two core sessions a day and all are encouraged to attend. This is to help support recovery and progression on the ward.
Access to the kitchen and laundry facilities are not restricted, however non-supervision of these areas will be agreed by the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) and determined within individual property plans and stages.
We also have a mutual help meeting daily at 4.30pm. During this time all planned appointments and patient leave for the week after are discussed. Feedback and session ideas are suggested for the following week and the meeting allows both staff and patients the opportunity to show thanks, support and appreciation to one another.
Meals and drinks
We provide three meals per day, always with a variety of choice. The weekly menus are on display in the dining room and alternate each week. You are also able to have your own snacks.
If you have any special dietary requirements (such as diabetic, vegetarian or cultural) we will inform the catering service.
The ward operates protected mealtimes, to make sure you have your meal with limited disruption. We therefore ask that professionals and carers avoid contacting the ward at mealtimes where possible.
