Bankfields Court is our purpose built, state-of-the-art inpatient facility providing assessment and treatment services for adults with learning disabilities from the Teesside area who also have associated mental health problems, behaviours that challenge and / or severe epilepsy.
About the unit
We provide our inpatient assessment and treatment services within a modern, spacious environment. The people we care for have their own personal space within our homely environment.
We also have packages of care that provide a rehabilitation service to people that may need a rehabilitation environment prior to a community placement.

Accommodation
Our accommodation includes:
- a one bedroom bungalow for single person occupancy (Unit 1)
- a three-bed inpatient treatment department (Unit 3)
- a six-bed inpatient treatment department (Unit 4)
- six rehabilitation flats (The Flats)
- a single occupancy accommodation (The Lodge)
- en-suite facilities
- quiet lounges
- light and sound room
- activity rooms.
Accommodation is mixed sex and people in our care are allocated rooms complying with single sex standards.
Unit 1, Bankfields Court
Unit 1 Bankfields Court has:
- bedroom single occupancy
- bathroom
- lounge
- kitchen where people can cook and prepare meals.
3 Bankfields Court and 4 Bankfields Court
3 Bankfields Court and 4 Bankfields Court each have:
- bedrooms with en-suite facilities
- lounge
- separate quiet lounge
- kitchen where people can cook and prepare meals.
The Flats, Bankfields Court
The Flats are:
- six rehabilitation single flats
- each with a lounge, kitchen, separate bedroom, shower and toilet.
Our rehabilitation flats have a focus on independent living, shopping and cooking, and providing own meals. Our staff support people in The Flats to enjoy daily outings if they want to take part.
The Lodge, Bankfields Court
The Lodge provides:
- single occupancy one bedroom
- kitchen
- bathroom
- lounge.
Meal times and visiting the unit
Meal times are protected between:
- noon – 1pm
- 5pm – 6pm.
Visiting is welcome outside of meal times and before 7.30pm. We are happy to arrange visits after 7.30pm where this may fit in with the patient. All care is person-centred and flexible. If anyone under the age of 18 years would like to visit Bankfields Court, please call us to discuss.
Local community links
At Bankfields Court we aim to provide community based treatment services with a strong community focus. We have strong links to the local community and involvement in the local amenities.
Car parking
We have limited free car parking at Bankfields Court.
How to access the service
Referrals to the service come from a community learning disability team.
Following referral, we carry out an assessment at the person’s home if possible, depending on the need at that time.
We then arrange a pre-admission meeting with all the people involved in the person’s care.
If it is an emergency, then a meeting may need to take place after someone is admitted to Bankfields Court – this must take place within seven days and the person in our care will be seen by the consultant psychiatrist and the rest of the multi-disciplinary team during this time.
