The fantastic work of one of our Trust’s local partners has received a Royal accolade.
Durham County Carers Support (DCCS) group has been awarded The King’s Award for Voluntary Service for 2024 for its amazing work with unpaid family carers.
This is the highest award a local voluntary group can receive in the UK and is equivalent to an MBE.

“This award rightly recognises the hard work, commitment and compassion the volunteer team delivers to unpaid carers across County Durham and the important contribution they all make.
“You should be very proud of the amazing work that you all do, and the impact you make within your community!”
Over 100 volunteers support the work of Durham County Carers Support group by offering counselling, a keeping in touch service, fundraising and running support groups, administration and much more.
Last year a total of 7000 hours of time enabled the charity to reach more carers and offer fantastic support to those caring for a someone who cannot manage without it.
Amazing work across the county
Jenni Wood, chief executive of DCCS said: “This award is recognition of the skill, commitment and hard work our volunteer team delivers to unpaid carers.”
Sue Snowdon, Lord Lieutenant of County Durham, added: “I am absolutely delighted that DCCS has received this really important recognition from His Majesty The King.
“It is an amazing group that provides outstanding support to carers who fulfil such essential and valued roles within our communities. It is a richly-deserved award.”
