OVER 1,000 paid jobs have been secured as part of our Trust’s employment support programme since 2019.
Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust’s Individual Placement and Support Service (IPS) helps people with severe mental health difficulties to get into work.
“We know that 90% of people with severe mental illness want to work, but only 8% have a job,” said Mark Fryett, IPS service lead at the Trust.
“Working can give people more confidence and a sense of purpose. The feedback from the people we have supported has been really positive.”
Support on hand when needed
IPS employment advisors are integral members of specialist mental health teams and support with job searches, applications, creating a CV and interview coaching – a well as benefit calculations and budgeting.
Advisors also provide unlimited in-work support for both the employee and the employer.
“The work we do often leads to them keeping a job for longer, which can reduce the chance of a mental health relapse in the future,” said Mark.

“There may be people who are unaware of IPS and how it can help, but we have 15 employment advisors and three IPS supervisors working hard across our Trust area, covering Durham, Darlington, Teesside, North Yorkshire, York and Selby.
“We are over the moon that we have helped so many local people into employment.”
