What is the Triangle of Care?
The Triangle of Care, an initiative from the Carers Trust, aims to improve the quality of care and support for patients and their carers. It highlights the importance of collaboration, communication, and involvement of carers as equal partners in the care and treatment process.
What does it mean to be a Triangle of Care 2 Star Member?
Our 2-star accreditation highlights our commitment to supporting carers. We have carer experience as one of our overarching goals, and work with partners and other organisations to support carers.
The accreditation is renewed annually through submission to The Carers Trust.
Feedback from our 2025 submission highlighted key successes:
- There is ongoing work to improve named nurse engagement with carers. This is being highlighted in supervision in Secure Inpatient Services.
- The crisis suite is increasingly involving carers as active partners in safety planning.
- Acute admission wards print off slips for carers, which advise of future appointments. This enables carers to attend meetings, e.g. at discharge.
- On Acute admission wards, carers can attend a monthly carers group, held with external carer organisations.
- A recovery ward is planning on introducing a monthly newsletter for carers.
- In children’s services a parent support group takes place monthly. This is facilitated by volunteers with lived experience.
- In Child Learning Disability services, the team lead delivers in-house carer awareness training.
- Other NHS Trusts have approached us about adopting our Carers Charter.
We value carers
We acknowledge that carers play an indispensable role in the wellbeing and recovery of people in our care. By maintaining our Triangle of Care 2-star accreditation, we reinforce our commitment to nurturing a compassionate and inclusive care environment that values the contribution of carers and recognises their needs.
We look forward to building upon this achievement. We remain steadfast in our mission to provide a great experience for carers as well as patients, partners and staff.
