Congratulations to our very own Pali Hungin – who has been knighted in the 2024 New Year Honours List by King Charles for his services to medicine.
Professor Hungin, a non-executive director with our Trust and a GP by background, qualified at Newcastle University and practiced in the Stockton area for 25 years.
He was founding Professor of Primary Care and General Practice at Durham University in 1997 and its founding Dean of Medicine in 2003.
International recognition
He later joined Newcastle University, where he remains a Professor Emeritus at the Institute of Health and Society in the Faculty of Medical Sciences.
Reflecting on his career and knighthood, Pali said: “Being a doctor is a privilege. This honour is the result of many people working together.”
Pali, who was born in Kenya, was a founding member of the UK and European Societies for Primary Care Gastroenterology and is internationally recognised for his research and leadership in patient care.
