Michael Pipe, an inpatient on Maple ward at West Park Hospital, Darlington, has produced a stunning display of artwork to help support future military patients and mark Remembrance Sunday.
Mickey, as he likes to be known, is a soldier who has served in Afghanistan, Africa, Eastern Europe and North and South America. Growing up Mickey really enjoyed art work at school and continued this skill throughout adulthood.
Andrew Forbes, ward manager said: “Part of Mickey’s recovery plan included art therapy that has been a positive intervention for him. Creating art can boost self-esteem and provide a sense of accomplishment.
“It can be a stressful time when coming into hospital and improving the environment can have such a positive impact. We love the artwork and it really showcases Mickey’s talent.
“Everyone who has seen the display has made really positive comments about it, he has put a great deal of thought, time and effort into the design.”
We can certainly see what a gift Mickey has, he has produced a fantastic display of our military services to be enjoyed by everyone.
