Our Trust chair, Miriam Harte, has announced that she will be stepping down.
Miriam has been Chair of our Trust Board since April 1, 2019 and has undertaken a number of non-Executive Director roles in the NHS across the North East over the last two decades.
Miriam commented: “In my two-and-a-half-years in post there have been some highlights, however we have also faced a number of challenges and some very difficult circumstances.
Having worked through the pandemic and overseen the transformation of the Trust’s leadership team over the last year, I now feel the time is right to pass the baton on to a new Chair to take the Trust’s turnaround to the next chapter.
“I am proud that in Our Journey to Change we have a new strategy where patients will see a real difference in the years to come. In Brent Kilmurray, TEWV has a chief executive with the dynamism, vision and leadership to drive forward the necessary change.”
Brent Kilmurray, our Chief Executive said: “It’s been a privilege working alongside Miriam in what has been an unprecedented 18 months for the Trust, and I’d like to place on record my thanks to Miriam for her commitment and resilience through a particularly challenging time.
“We know there is still much to do to put things right, and work is continuing at pace on Our Journey to Change. We’re confident that progress is being made across the organisation and improvements being implemented across the Trust, which is testament to the commitment and dedication of our hard-working staff.”
Brent added: “We’re incredibly grateful for Miriam’s contribution as Chair, and hope that we can continue to put her wealth of experience to good use going forward.”
Interim arrangements are being put in place, and Deputy Chair Paul Murphy will assume Acting Chair duties, supported by Shirley Richardson as his deputy until a permanent Chair is recruited. Further details will be announced shortly.
