Staff, families, and people in our care have come together to paint rocks adorned with meaningful messages and hidden them in various locations throughout Teesside. Each rock carries a powerful word or message on one side, along with the hashtag #MaternalMHmatters on the other, aiming to spread awareness and support for maternal mental health.
The campaign is rooted in the belief that by sharing inspiring and encouraging words, individuals can uplift one another, particularly during challenging times. Through the act of finding and hiding painted rocks, the team hopes to remind new mothers that they are not alone and that their mental health is of utmost importance. Furthermore, they seek to engage with the wider Teesside community to underscore the significance of maternal mental health.
“We want to show the Teesside communities that maternal mental health matters,” said a spokesperson for the Teesside Perinatal Team. “Our hope is that these rocks will serve as beacons of light, offering encouragement and support to those who come across them.”
In addition to the rock campaign, the Teesside Perinatal Team is reaching out to the community. On April 30, they will be stationed at the Hill Street Shopping Centre in Middlesbrough, followed by Stockton Highstreet (near Poundland) on May 1. These events provide opportunities for individuals to learn more about maternal mental health and access support services.
The team has also collaborated with local organizations such as Leos, the North East Young Dads and Lads Project, and IMPACT on Teesside to offer comprehensive support and resources. Additionally, CPI Darlington generously provided care packages for pregnant and new mothers visiting the events.
Individuals seeking support from the Teesside Perinatal Team are encouraged to reach out to their GP, midwife, or health visitor for a referral.
As the campaign gains momentum, the Teesside Perinatal Team remains committed to promoting maternal mental health awareness and providing vital support to the community.
