This summer, the Old Parcels Office Art-space will present Creatures of the Deep, a family-friendly exhibition of fantastical sea creatures, co-created by six local artists and six community groups.
A group of patients worked with our hospital’s activity coordinators Debby Hill and Lucy McGuire and multimedia artist Charlotte Hill, to explore the creatures living in the deep and the world they live in.
They used recycled materials to create small creatures such as starfish, limpets, small jellyfish and other creatures. At the same time the group worked on rocky environments for their creatures to live in and created bigger animals to inhabit their deep sea world.
Lucy McGuire, one of our activity coordinator’s at Cross Lane Hospital, said: “we have co-created this with patients on Esk ward and have created a large rock which will have anemones, starfish and lots of limpets stuck all of it.
“These busy sessions with Charlotte have been full of creativity and imagination. We have seen participants really get stuck in and create some fantastic pieces, with an excitement and pride that their work will be displayed in an exhibition in the local community.
“We hope that some of the participants will be able to visit the exhibition and see it with patients from the ward.”
The Creatures of the Deep exhibition runs at the Old Parcels Office Artspace from 19 July to 10 August, Thursday to Sunday, 11am to 4pm. Admission is free.
