We work in collaboration with other trusts across the north east and north Cumbria to make sure there is a wealth of opportunity for medical students and doctors in training.
Health Education North East has two mental health and learning disabilities Trusts. Once you have completed your core training you may be based in this Trust or Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust, or even both throughout your high training scheme depending on your chosen speciality. For further information about living and training in the north east take a look at Find Your Place.
Find Your Place is a recruitment website developed by Heath Education England North East that provides information on the various specialty training schemes in the North East and North Cumbria. As well as detailing the training opportunities the website also provides information on living in the North East and North Cumbria providing information on housing, education and leisure activities etc. There are quotes and videos from current and previous trainees. Each specialty and each Trust has a page on the website to provide more specific information.
We also work with the Health Education Yorkshire and Humber which is responsible for postgraduate training in medicine and dentistry across the region.
Our medical staffing department is responsible for the recruitment, employment and development of career grade medical staff. We take part in the Clinical Excellence Awards, which recognise and reward NHS consultant and academic GPs who perform ‘over and above’ the standard expected of their role.
Guardian of safe working
Our guardian of safe working, Dr Julian Whaley, makes sure that junior doctors are being treated fairly and that their working hours and conditions allow them to provide safe, effective care for people who use our services. He provides assurance that the Trust and doctors in approved training programmes are compliant with safe working hours.
