The behaviour team works in different places depending on where you spend time.
The team provides functional assessment of the challenging behaviour in the place where it occurs, such as:
- Work place
- Community places.
They also work with local integrated/community learning disability teams and other agencies.

The team helped to facilitate a transition from school to college for Zoe. This was very successful and the team were very proud of Zoe, who received a certificate of congratulations from us.

Clinical team manager
Started with the trust as a catering assistant in 1981, and commenced nurse training in learning disabilities in 1988. Commenced work with adult challenging behaviour service (now behaviour team) in 1999.
Qualifications RNMH (Registered Nurse for Mental Handicap), Diploma in Health studies, BsC (Hons) in Applied Behaviour Analysis.
Awards: Winner of the NHS North East Masterclass and NHS Leadership Recognition Awards 2013 for ‘NHS Leadership Champion of the Year’ and nominated for the national award.
Commenced working in the NHS in 2001. Worked at Prudhoe within the child and adolescent assessment and treatment unit. Commenced working with the adult challenging behaviour service (now behaviour team) in 2005.
Qualifications: RN Dip He LD (Registered Learning Disability Nurse); BA Hons (2:1) Mental Health Practice; Post Graduate Diploma in Positive Approaches to Challenging Behaviour (Distinction).
I began employment with the trust in 1985 and was employed as a nursing assistant. I then became a support worker and was seconded by the trust in 2002 to commence a BSC honours on Learning Disabilities and Social work. I qualified in 2005 and began working for the adult challenging behaviour service (now behaviour team).
Qualifications: BSC honours Learning Disabilities/Social work. Diploma in Positive approaches in Challenging Behaviour 2010 and began Masters in Autism at Northumbria University in 2011, which is ongoing.
Worked in learning disability service since 1996. In 1998 commenced nurse training at Northumbria University. Commenced work with adult challenging behaviour service (now behaviour team) in 2005.

I commenced my learning disabilities nurse training in 2011 to 2014 at Teesside University. Following completion of the course I joined the trust and Behaviour Team in 2014 as a Registered Nurse Learning Disabilities (RNLD).
Qualifications: BSc (Hons) Nursing Studies (Learning Disabilities).
Clinical skills trainer / practitioner
I have been employed by the NHS since 1984 when I commenced employment as a care assistant working with adults who had a learning disability associated with behaviour that challenges. I joined the challenging behaviour service (now behaviour team) in 1995 and have been training staff groups ever since. As well as training NHS staff, other clients have included Mencap, UBU, Voyager, Real Life Options and local authorities.
Qualifications: I hold a City and Guilds 7302 (Level 3 Certificate / Introduction to delivering learning) as well as a NVQ Level 4 in Advice and Guidance. I have also completed courses run by the Institute of Applied Behaviour Analysis (IABA) and have attended many conferences both regionally and nationally.
I began employment with the trust in 2011 to 2014 and was employed as a Bank Health Care Assistant. In 2013 I commenced my learning disabilities nurse training at Teesside University. Following qualifying in 2016 I joined the specialist health team – behaviour function as a community nurse learning disabilities (RNLD)

I commenced my career in 1991 at Aycliffe Hospital on a youth training scheme. I then gained a post as a support worker in 1993, working in a residential home for adults with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour.
Qualifications: NVQ lll in Promoting Independence, RAID, Longitudinal training, IABA in Positive Behavioural Practice, Autism Awareness, and Picture Exchange Communication System. General Services Association Tutor (GSA) in techniques for the control of violent situations. Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care from Teesside University.
I started working for the trust in 1989 on an adult training unit at Earls House as a nursing assistant. I worked there for over ten years before commencing work on a challenging behaviour unit which opened up in 1998 in Earls House. I have also worked briefly on Strathmore, Farne and Rannoch Wards. I joined the adult challenging behaviour service (now behaviour team) in 1999.
Qualifications: 7307, RAID, NVQ II Direct Care, Cert Ed, NVQ III in Promoting Independence, Autism Awareness, Picture Exchange Communication System, Longitudinal training, and IABA in Positive Behavioural Practice. Certificate in Autism from Teesside University.
I started with the trust in 2004 as a support worker, commenced working with the behaviour service (now know as behaviour team) in 2006.
Qualifications: NVQ II & III in Health and Social Care, IABA in Positive Behavioural Practice, Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care from Teesside University.
I have worked as a secretary within the private sector since leaving school in 1984. I joined this trust in 2007 as PA to the service director for adult mental health. In 2011 I joined the adult challenging behaviour team (now behaviour team) at Spennymoor on a part time basis.
Qualifications: O Level – Maths, English Literature, English Language, Art, Biology, French, Chemistry.
As part of our team’s ongoing commitment to student education, we provide a high quality placement for student nurses, offering a stimulating and supportive environment for learning to take place.
The team provides opportunities for students at all levels of the programme and we have a number of practice mentors, each of which is an experienced qualified nurse on the appropriate part of the NMC professional registration.
