Our Trust’s brand new York and North Yorkshire Mental Health Treatment Requirement team (MHTR) is starting work today – 21 October.
“We’ll be supporting people who have been sentenced to a community order, have a mental health need, and have opted to work with us,” says Siobhan Walmsley, principle applied psychologist.
“We’ll offer each person 12 psychologically informed therapy sessions, aimed at encouraging and supporting wellbeing. This might include mindfulness, relaxation techniques, or noticing how our thoughts are linked to our emotions.”
The new MHTR team, which is part of our Health and Justice service, will cover four courts –York Crown Court and magistrates’ courts in Scarborough, York and Harrogate.
Across the whole area they’ll be working alongside partners who already offer support to people struggling with alcohol and substance misuse.
