Coaching sessions in North Yorkshire, York and Selby have empowered nearly 100 administration staff to take responsibility for decision making to improve productivity and enhance patient care.
Following a quality improvement event, it was identified that this staff group could be instrumental in supporting TEWV to embed the shared language and practical thinking tools of solution focused thinking methodology
within their service area.
Administration staff were welcomed to attend sessions to learn key coaching principles to overcome obstacles and meet the needs of the people they support, including service users and their families.
Ruth Hill, chief operating officer...
Ruth Hill, chief operating officer at TEWV and chair of the Trustwide admin group ‘Valuing admin: admin adding value’, said “As a Trust we have been working with external provider Think On, training staff to use coaching tools to identify new ways of working and improve the effectiveness of the services we provide.
“Administration staff provide valuable and wide ranging support, often taking responsibility for implementing, developing and maintaining processes which support us to deliver high quality care. By providing them with the tools to ‘think big’ admin staff are having better conversations, exploring new possibilities and taking personal responsibility for making change happen.”
ThinkOn master coach...
Katherine Munro, team secretary and ThinkOn master coach, who arranged the recent events, said “I am delighted to see the efforts the Trust have made to harness the skills and abilities of administration staff.
“Those who attended the day long coaching workshops learned new skills to enhance their thinking processes and how these could be used in their work and daily lives. Being able to effectively problem solve or make headway on a desired goal is incredibly empowering and participants found the events very useful.
“We have plans to deliver more events in other areas of the Trust in the new year.”
