Teams around the trust are celebrating recent accreditations.
We’re taking a moment to highlight some of these recently-received certifications which are a testament to a lot of care, dedication and hard work.
Hambleton and Richmondshire Memory team accredited by the Royal College of Psychiatrists
The Hambleton and Richmondshire Memory team has been accredited as providing an excellent service by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
This is the fourth consecutive time the service has been accredited, since it was awarded the first accreditation in 2012.
The team is part of Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust’s (TEWV) mental health services. It offers a service to people who are concerned about their memory and cognition and who have been referred by their GP.
There are many causes of poor memory and cognition. Some of the more common explanations are include ageing, physical health problems, mental health conditions and dementia.
Margaret Coton, Lead Nurse for TEWV’s Memory Service said: “As you will appreciate during this difficult period of COVID-19 we are extremely proud of our achievement which is a reflection of the team’s hard and dedicated work.”
Positive Approaches Training accredited by the Restraint Reduction Network (RRN)
Our Positive Approaches Training achieved full accreditation on 29 March 2021. The Positive Approaches Training focuses on the prevention and alternative methods of managing violent or aggressive behaviour.
We are among a handful of NHS Foundation Trusts that have this accreditation.
The subjects included in the newly-accredited training programme include positive behaviour support, verbal de-escalation and post-incident support.
Two peer trainers assist in the delivery of training. Mark Carney, senior trainer, said: “They have lived experience of mental health issues and give a unique perspective into physical intervention and the trauma around this. The peer trainers are not just there to tell their stories but as trainers in their own right. They have enhanced our training.”
He continued: “I am immensely proud to be part of this team. We pride ourselves on the fact that we are making a difference in people’s lives.”
