What is the domestic activities of daily living group?
The group is an ongoing programme of domestic activities for people staying on Roseberry ward.
The group is an opportunity for you to carry on with your usual domestic activities. It can help you maintain these skills during your stay.
Who is it for?
The group can help you …
- if you are planning to return home or somewhere else where you will carry out domestic activities.
- if your skills are likely to become a little rusty during your stay. The group will help you maintain or improve your skills in domestic activities.
- if you are experiencing reduced motivation or loss of confidence in your abilities, the group will help you to increase your motivation and self-belief. It is a safe and friendly environment.
The group usually has between one and four people attending it, with one or two members of staff.
The frequency you attend the group will be tailored to your needs.
What is the aim of the group?
We aim to help you to increase your independence through participation in meaningful activities.
We will:
- promote or maintain your skills in domestic activities of daily living
- promote rehabilitation during your stay in hospital.
The group is an opportunity to socialise. You will find it is a friendly, supportive environment where you can build your confidence and self-esteem.
What to expect at each session
Session one
Preparing a light meal or snack. This may consist of a salad, fruit salad, or making a smoothie.
Session two
Planning a meal of your choice, to make in session three, and then a trip to the local shops to buy ingredients.
Session three
Preparing a main meal of your choice.
Session four (optional)
You can choose: laundry (machine or hand washing), ironing and cleaning activities.
