Tees Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust (TEWV) has topped the regional rankings for health education in the North East following the publication of the General Medical Council’s National Trainee Survey.

Tees Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust (TEWV) has topped the regional rankings for health education in the North East following the publication of the General Medical Council’s National Trainee Survey.

The survey is carried out yearly to monitor the quality of medical education and training in the UK and this year consisted of the views of over 53,000 junior doctors who are on training programmes in the UK.

Health Education North East compared all of the responses from doctor’s on placement in each of the North East Trust’s and provided a regional ranking of the 11 Trusts against 14 different categories. TEWV rated first in 9 of the 14 categories including induction, access to educational resources, feedback supportive environment and overall satisfaction; and was the highest rated Trust overall across the North East.

Commenting on the outcome TEWV medical director, Dr Nick Land said: “This is fantastic recognition for the Trust and highlights the quality placements we provide, as well as the investment, supervision and support we give to doctors whilst they are with us.

“We have an excellent team in medical development and a strong faculty of medical education who work closely to support doctors throughout their placement. It is our aim to help train and inspire the next generation of psychiatrists and show how rewarding a career in psychiatry can be, and by doing so we hope to attract some of the UK’s best medical professionals to our Trust, which will enable us to continue to provide the highest level of care for our patients in the future.”

The survey results has further cemented TEWV’s position as an employer of choice and the Trust has not only also achieved the Gold Investors in People (IIP) standard, but is also rated as one of the top ten places to work in the country by the Health Service Journal.
