Mental health inpatient rehabilitation and recovery unit opens in North Yorkshire

The Orchards, a specialist in-patient rehabilitation and recovery unit, for the people of North Yorkshire opens on Thursday 16 July in Ripon. Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust (TEWV) has invested £3.6 million to provide a much improved facility and increased space for service users and staff, who have been previously based at Abdale House in Harrogate, which is no longer fit for purpose.

Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust (TEWV) has invested £3.6 million to provide a much improved facility and increased space for service users and staff, who have been previously based at Abdale House in Harrogate, which is no longer fit for purpose.

 

The new unit contains nine en-suite bedrooms, a single bedsit style apartment and a range of modern facilities to assist with daily living skills, as well as a number of group rooms and visitor accommodation. The site also provides for a dedicated community service base that will house the areas Early Intervention in Psychosis team and North Yorkshire County Councils local Community Rehabilitation Team. Additional consulting space is also available to help us provide services as locally as possible.

 

Commenting on the opening Adele Coulthard, director of operations for TEWV in North Yorkshire said: “We care for people with severe and complex mental health problems. Our focus is to work with them to improve their quality of life and help them develop the skills to live as independently as possible, whilst supporting them on their road to recovery.

 

“The Orchards will enable us to provide assessment, care planning, treatment and recovery in a warm, safe and homely environment and will help prepare our service users for community integration and ultimately to them leading a more independent life.”
