Reception staff are often the first people visitors to our hospitals and sites meet and as such are key to presenting the Trust’s values and corporate image.  Acting in a professional manner, reception staff welcome patients, visitors and staff into a relaxing atmosphere and environment.

Handling a range of face to face and telephone enquiries, reception staff also manage room bookings, support clinics and deal with internal and external postal services.

Our reception staff can sometimes be faced with challenging situations and being calm, non-judgemental and empathetic are essential characteristics for anyone working in this role.

A receptionist at one of our hospitals said the best thing about their job is helping staff, patients and relatives, often when they are feeling anxious. “If I can help them to feel welcomed and pointed in the right direction I have achieved what my role is meant to be.  Being the first port of call is important and I feel proud when thanks are given.“
