There are nine award categories in which teams and individuals can be nominated:

Winners will be announced at the Making a Difference Awards ceremony in March 2018.

Clinician of the year        

For a nurse, psychiatrist, psychologist or other qualified health care professional who has excelled in their role and delivered high quality services that make a real difference to service users and their carers.

He/she will have shown initiative and commitment to improving quality; demonstrated true care and compassion and a recovery-focused approach and inspired others to bring about positive change.The judges will be particularly looking for evidence of:

  • consistent positive impact on patient care
  • commitment to finding better way of doing things
  • how they’ve inspired and motivated others.

Healthcare support employee of the year  

For a support worker in our clinical services, this award is open to health care assistants, therapy assistants, housekeepers and other non-qualified clinical staff.

It recognises individuals who have excelled in their role and delivered high quality services that make a real difference to service users and their carers. He/she will have shown compassion, dedication and commitment to improving quality.

The judges will be looking for evidence of:

  • consistent positive impact on patient care
  • compassion and concern for the wellbeing of service users and their families
  • commitment to finding better ways of doing things.

Non-clinical services employee of the year

For all non-clinical staff, in recognition of the excellent work they do behind the scenes to support our front line services. This could be anyone from maintenance staff to secretaries and IT technicians, to staff in corporate services such as HR, planning and performance and finance.

It recognises individuals who have excelled in their role and delivered high quality services that ultimately support our clinical service to provide better care. He/she will have shown dedication and commitment to improving quality.

The judges will be looking for evidence of:

  • consistent positive impact on our services
  • compassion and concern for the wellbeing of service users and their families
  • commitment to finding better ways of doing things.

Volunteer of the year

For an individual or team who has shown outstanding commitment and exceptional contribution to the service they support.

It is open to everyone who volunteers their time and effort to support the Trust. This also includes experts by experience, governors, service users and carers involved in Trust activities.

The judges will be looking for evidence of:

  • exceptional contribution to the Trust and the people we support
  • commitment to helping the Trust continually improve and develop.

For outstanding team work in a clinical area this award is for a team that consistently demonstrates a ‘can do approach’.

Through effective team working they will have successfully implemented change and/or improved services. This could include introducing new ways of working, reconfiguring services or moving base.

The judges will be looking for evidence of:

  • effective teamwork and collaboration
  • a flexible approach by team members
  • how barriers to change have been overcome
  • high quality services.

Outstanding initiative – clinical services

For a clinician or team, including individuals who work as part of an integrated team/service,who has/have developed and successfully implemented a new or improved service or delivered a successful project, which has had a positive impact on front-line services and showcases best practice and innovation.

This could include:

  • using the tools of our quality improvement system to introduce innovative or more streamlined ways of working, or
  • developing services that embody and promote the Trust’s recovery approach and provide more personalised care.

The judges will be looking for evidence of effective teamwork and collaboration:

  • positive impact on service users and/or carers
  • a recovery based approach
  • innovation
  • a successful end result.
