About Linnet Ward

Linnet ward is a 17 bed, medium secure rehabilitation ward, providing care and assessment for adult males aged between 18 and 65 years.

Linnet ward is based in Ridgeway at Roseberry Park.

The ward is staffed 24 hours a day and provides all round care ranging from assessment to therapeutic activity.

The service promotes recovery from mental health problems through the provision of care in a variety of environments. It provide opportunities and space for its residents to make changes, use and develop skills, and pursue aspirations to achieve a good quality of life within the community.

The ward team

Patients on Linnet will be treated by a multi-disciplinary team of staff that includes nurses, social workers, occupational therapists and psychologists.

How to access the service

Referrals to the service are received from Prisons, high secure hospitals, the private sector and other NHS inpatient facilities.

Once a referral is received, it is allocated to a team and an assessment will be carried out as to whether the service would be beneficial to the individual.

Assessment of needs

The team will assess a patient's mental health needs and offer advice and support to identify any problems they may have regarding their illness.

Patients may attend psychology sessions and assessment might take place in the form of questionnaires, interviews and homework.

Patients will attend different psychology groups to determine whether they will benefit them.  If not, the multi disciplinary team will identify a more suitable treatment session.

Treatments available

A range of treatments are available on Linnet ward.  The care team will assess the patient's mental health problem to determine which treatment will work best for them. Assessment and treatment is an essential step to recovery.  It is likely medication will be included in treatment.

Each patient will be cared for by a consultant psychiatrist, named nurse and associate named nurse. Their personal care plan will offer them information about their treatment and all staff will be aware of a patient's personal needs.

Patients are encouraged to attend therapeutic activities as part of their treatment.  Therapeutic activity is available on the ward with ward staff, and off the ward with the occupational therapy team.

The occupational therapy team promote health by enabling individuals to take part in meaningful and purposeful activities. Occupational therapy aims to develop, recover, or maintain activities of daily living.
