About the service

Bransdale is an acute admission ward at Roseberry Park in Middlesbrough catering for females aged between 18 to 65 with a mental illness.

The aim of admission is to establish treatment and provide support throughout the recovery process. Discharge planning is arranged with a package of care in place.

In January 2014 the service was rated as 'Excellent' in the accreditation for inpatient mental health services (AIMS) from the Royal College of Psychiatrists. Particularly noted was the ‘…excellent off-ward activity street; the multi faith chapel; the clean, bright and welcoming atmosphere; good leadership and a very patient-focused staff team’.

The Bransdale team includes:

  • Consultant psychiatrist
  • Junior doctor
  • Psychologist
  • Occupational therapy staff
  • Ward manager
  • Staff nurses
  • Physical health nurse
  • Health care assistant
  • Crisis team attend meetings
  • Community team inreach.

How to access the service

All patients are referred to the Trust's crisis team where it is identified if a patient needs to be in hospital. Referral is then made by the crisis team directly to the ward. 

About the ward

Bransdale has the following facilities:

  • 14 beds with en-suite bathrooms
  • Lounge area
  • TV room
  • Dining area - meal times are protected

There is a separate block for activities. Activities that are available include pottery art, cookery, yoga, use of a pool table and musical instruments. There is also a gym with a gym instructor available.

Visiting times

Visiting times on Bransdale are:

  • 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm
  • 6.00 pm to 8.00 pm
