While we don't own or manage Harrogate District Hospital, we do provide mental health services there in the Briary Wing.

About the service

Cedar ward is an acute inpatient admission ward for adult mental health clients.

Within 72 hours of admission to the ward a formulation meeting is arranged, where clear goals are identified for the patient, in terms of care and interventions. All people involved in the patient's care are invited to attend this meeting.

An intervention plan is put together with the patient to help achieve their discharge and discharge planning meetings are arranged as part of the recovery process.

The ward staff offer a variety of treatment options, including:

  • Group work
  • One to one work
  • Psychology session
  • Ward activities
  • Medication.

Ward staff

The ward team consists of consultant psychiatrists, junior doctors, psychology, an occupational therapist, occupational technical instructor, qualified nurses and health care assistants.

How to access the service

All admissions to the ward are overseen by the intensive home treatment team.

Referrals are made to the intensive home treatment team by accident and emergency (A&E) services, GPs or the community mental health team.

Following assessment by the GP or A&E various services will be considered and the patient will be signposted to the most appropriate service.
