About the service

Ward 15 is an acute mental health inpatient ward which provides care for people aged 18 to 65 years.

The service aims to keep all patients safe and secure while they start their treatment and recovery, preparing them to return and continue their recovery in the community. The team provides holistic care for individuals addressing their psycho-social needs.

The core of the treatment offered on the ward is through therapeutic one to one engagement with nursing staff. The service also offer group and one to one relaxation, as well as running a programme of therapeutic activities and groups.

The ward team

The ward team is staffed by qualified mental health nurses, health care assistants and  a ward occupational therapist.

How to access the service

People can be referred to the intensive home treatment team for assessment by either their GP or staff in accident and emergency, or for people already involved with mental health services, by their care co-ordinator.

Once assessed by a member of the intensive home treatment team, a decision will be made regarding admission to the ward.

About the ward

Ward 15 is has 11 acute beds and 1 substance misuse bed.

The ward has some single bedrooms, two en-suite and two four bedded bedrooms.

There is one large TV lounge and another two smaller, single sex TV lounges.

There is also a dining room and patients' kitchen as well as a small gym. There is also a large activity room in which the groups are held.

The ward team provide a combination of both structured therapeutic groups as well as activity groups. These include: arts and crafts groups, up and about, games, relaxation, skill build up, support group, wellbeing group, relapse prevention, distraction management, and a brunch club on a Saturday.

Meal times

Meal times on Ward 15 are:

  • Breakfast 8.15am – 8.45am
  • Lunch 12.15pm – 12.45pm
  • Evening meal 5.00pm – 5.30pm
  • Supper  8.30pm – 9.00pm.

Visiting times

Visiting times on Ward 15 are:

  • 3.30pm – 5.00pm
  • 6.00pm – 8.30pm

Children up to the age of 18 may visit by prior arrangement only. The hospital has a family visiting room located off the ward, which can be booked in advance.

If these visiting times are difficult, please contact the nurse in charge and they will be happy to make other arrangements.
