About Tunstall and Farnham wards
Tunstall is a 20-bed female ward and Farnham is a 20-bedded male ward.
Both wards provide acute mental heath care for people from the north of County Durham who need specialist inpatient care.
Each of the single, en-suite bedrooms is on the ground floor with a window seat, most of which overlook the surrounding countryside.
Each of the wards has its own enclosed garden and each unit includes communal living areas and kitchens.
The multi-disciplinary ward teams offer service users a wide range of therapies and therapeutic activities which promote a rapid and sustainable recovery.
Intensive support service
Our aim is to help people return to their everyday lives. The intensive support service works closely with ward based staff to engage with inpatients in a meaningful and therapeutic way to aid their recovery and discharge from hospital.
This will depend on the needs of the individual but may include:
- Daily living activities such as cooking, home maintenance, budgeting, shopping, self care
- Strategies for coping, preventing a relapse, managing symptoms such as voices or hallucinations, anger or anxiety
- Creative activities such as arts and crafts or creative writing
- Developing work related or vocational skills such as gardening.
The intensive support service consists primarily of occupational therapy and physiotherapy staff.
