Local governor plans to visit new section 136 suite at the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton
Colin Wilkie, one of the governors representing Hambleton and Richmondshire, is planning to visit the new 136 suite which recently opened at the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton. This facility was created by refurbishing existing accommodation in the mental health department to provide a specific environment to safely and appropriatley manage people detained under section 136 of the mental health act. Details about his visit will follow in due course.
Mental health and learning disability showcase
We held an event on Tuesday 8 July 2014 at Hambleton Forum, Bullamoor Road, Northallerton, DL6 1LP from 11am - 2pm. See the event flyer.
Attendees were able to visit a range of information stands which showcased the services and support available for residents of Hambleton and Richmondshire. Staff and representatives from a number of services and organisations were on hand to talk to people and leaflets and information on a range of illnesses, treatment and support, not only for patients but also for their families and carers, were available.
Public governor for Durham, Cliff Allison, attended this event to learn more about services provided by the trust and other organisations/groups to people living in his neighbouring constituency. Although not able to visit all of the information stalls, Cliff was impressed with the following services and his comments are also below:
- The care home liaison service - "I wish that when I was working in the private sector I had had access to such a valuable resource. The three members of this team were friendly, well informed and enthusiastic. They were happy to share their knowledge and experience with me and were obviously great ambassadors for the trust."
- Citizen's Advice Bureau (CAB)/Mencap Advisor - "Thelma Thomas spoke at length about her role and her genuine love and affection for her client group...she could not have been more helpful."
- The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) - "I was impressed by their knowledge and enthusiasm."
- Just the Job Environmental Enterprises Ltd - "...they take on young people, help them to establish a work habit, give them experience in such things as mowing, strimming, weeding, hedge trimming etc and generally help them to prepare for employment. They seem to be providing a very useful service to the community..."

Developing the Orchards
The Trust is investing to extensively refurbish the Orchards in Ripon into a specialist adult mental health inpatient rehabilitation unit. Drop in sessions were held in April 2014 so that people could find out more about the Trust's plans.
We held workshops to seek the views of trust governors and members in order to assist us to develop a proportionate response to the recommendations made in the final report of the Public Inquiry of the Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust chaired by Robert Francis, QC, published on 6 February 2013.
