Our Durham and Darlington child and adolescent mental health service (CAMHS) eating disorders team delivered an educational workshop for 30 GPs and practice staff from the Durham Dales, Easington and Sedgefield areas in July.

The workshop aimed to help GPs and practice staff better understand the assessment, management and referral of young people with eating disorders to our services.

GPs and practice staff, attending as part of their protected learning time, took part in an interactive workshop with practical case studies which proved a success; all GPs taking part told us they had significantly improvement their knowledge and understanding of topics covered and 95% said this would help them back in the surgery.

Those attending let us know what other topics they would like to see covered in future sessions so we are busy looking into that now so we can help GPs and their colleagues further develop their mental health knowledge.

The presentation from the event, although includes specific Durham and Darlington referral information, might be of interest to you.
