About the service

The access team provides an assessment service for adults referred with mental health problems who may require secondary mental health services. The service is for adults aged 18 and upwards in the Stockton locality.

The service aims to offer a rapid appointment convenient to the patient.

Following assessment and diagnosis, the team can offer treatment and may also signpost the patient onto other services that can support them following their assessment.

The team

The access team includes:

  • Consultant psychiatrist
  • Social worker
  • Mental health nurses
  • Administrative staff
  • Student nurses, social workers and trainee medics.

How to access the service

Most people are referred to the access team by their GP. Referrals can also be made by the local authority, police, housing, probation and other agencies.

The team will aim to contact the patient by telephone on the same day that they receive the referral, or alternatively, write to the patient to make arrangements for a convenient appointment.

An appointment can be made at a range of locations across the Borough of Stockton on Tees.
