Recovery injectable opioid (RIO)

Adult services, County Durham and Darlington

RIO is a new health service for patients who continue to inject street heroin despite standard treatment.

The aims are to provide a recovery orientated service to help you stop using street heroin and start your recovery journey. This could be for you, if you are committed to stopping heroin use and need intensive support.

RIO will help to structure your day, with seven days a week attendance, supervised injectable opioids, intensive support and psychosocial interventions.

Patients in a previous injectable opioid service of ours told us:

  • "My life started to have meaning again"

  • "Saved me"

  • "No use of street heroin"

If you are interested, please contact your recovery keyworker at the community drugs service. If you are eligible, this treatment may be provided for just over one year to help you achieve recovery.
