A nursing assistant from Tees, Esk & Wear Valleys NHS Trust is going out of his way to make a difference to the health and well being of patients and staff.

Michael Lawrenson who is also a gym instructor with the trust has recently won the title of Mr Britain in the National Amateur Body Building Association Class 1 contest. He trains at least 4 times a week and builds this up to a minimum of 6 times before a competition. He is now a role model for the people he works with and is an example of what hard work and dedication can bring.

Michael has learnt a lot about healthy eating and exercise habits, which he now passes on to the patients he works with through advice on a healthy diet as well as fitness regimes. Michael said “I am thrilled to have won the title of Mr Britain, but it is also important to me that I am making a real positive difference to the lives of patients as it improves both their physical and mental well being and also helps them to relax.”

Michael is now in training for the Mr Universe contest which takes place in June in Germany.
