About the service
Bankfields Court is the Trust's purpose built, state of the
art inpatient facility which provides an assessment and treatment
service for adults with learning disabilities from the Teesside area, who
also have associated mental health problems, challenging behaviour or
severe epilepsy.
The aim is to provide community based treatment services with a strong
community focus.
Within the service, the client has access to psychological therapies,
behavioural therapies and access to these teams.
The team
The Bankfields Court team includes:
- Charge nurses
- Deputy charge nurses
- Registered nurses
- Associate practitioners
- Health care assistants.
How to access the service
Referrals to the service come from a community learning disability
team.
Following referral an assessment is carried out in the client’s home, if
possible, depending on the need at that time.
A pre-admission meeting is then held with attendance from all the people
involved in the client’s care. If it is an emergency, then a meeting may need to
take place following the client’s admission. The meeting must take place within
7 days.
Clients will be seen by the consultant psychiatrist and the rest of the
multi-disciplinary team during this time.
About the unit
Bankfields Court provides inpatient assessment and treatment services within
a modern, spacious environment.
It offers clients personal space within a homely environment and
offers bedrooms with en-suite facilities, quiet lounges, light and sound room
and activity rooms
The accommodation includes:
- Two six-bedded inpatient treatment departments
- Six rehabilitation flats.
Due to the size of the service the unit does not provide single sex accommodation but this will be monitored and clients will be allocated rooms complying with single sex standards.
The service has a strong link to the local community and involvement in the local amenities. There are also activity rooms where people can participate in a range of activities.
3 Bankfields Court and 4 Bankfields Court
3 Bankfields Court and 4 Bankfields Court each have six bedrooms with ensuite facilities.
There is a lounge, a separate quiet lounge
and a kitchen where clients are encouraged to be involved in cooking and
preparation of meals.
The Flats, Bankfields Court
There are also six rehabilitation flats, which are single flats with a
lounge, kitchen, separate bedroom, shower and toilet.
Rehabilitation flats have a focus of independent living, shopping and
cooking, providing own meals. The staff promote daily outings for those who want
to take part.
Meal times and visiting the unit
Meal times are protected between 12noon to 1.00pm and 5.00pm to 6.00pm.
Staff ask if visitors can visit outside of these times and that visits end by
7.30pm, unless exceptional circumstances apply.
No child visiting (under 18s) is allowed without previous discussion.
